Store Opening Results!

reveretornadoLast week, we had an extra special opening of our Candy Store. All proceeds from the sales went directly to the Revere Tornado Relief Fund. Fans from all over stopped by and stocked up on their favorite classic NECCO sweets! We were delighted to see that every day of the week was exceptionally busy and filled with visits by NECCO fans of all ages.

At the end of the week, when everything had been totaled up, we ended up raising $4,500!! [That's some serious Sweet Tooth work! ;-) ] We couldn’t be prouder to donate this money to the fund that is working so diligently to help those in need in our community!

For any looking to donate to our Revere community, please head to http://www.reveretornadorelief.org !

NECCO Store Opening to Benefit Revere Tornado Relief Fund!

reveretornado

In late July an EF2 tornado ripped through our hometown city of Revere, MA, devastating a large number of businesses and residences. As the likelihood of a tornado hitting our city by the ocean is exceptionally unlikely, many private insurances will not provide complete relief for individuals and businesses who suffered great losses. Total estimated damage is estimated in the millions. Due to the extensive damage caused by the tornado, NECCO will have a special limited opening of the candy store at our headquarters. Proceeds from sales at the store will go to benefit the city’s Revere Tornado Relief Fund. We have been very thankful to have been located in Revere for the past decade and hope to be able to help shoulder the burden that our beloved community is facing as it looks to recover and rebuild.

DATES:           Monday August 18th – Friday August 22nd

LOCATION:           NECCO Headquarters
135 American Legion Highway, Revere, MA

TIME:                        Daily, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

If you’re in the area, please stop by to stock up on all your NECCO favorites and help support the Revere community in their recovery. We hope to see you next week! =)

Zombie Food S’mores!

ZF smore 2

Summers are best spent outside with family and friends enjoying the beautiful weather, and some of the happiest memories are created around a warm campfire. And what treat is more perfect to enjoy at a glowing fire than a deliciously gooey s’more? You’re right… nothing! ;-)

In honor of National S’mores Day on this Sunday, August 10th, we decided to get a little creative and experiment with our celebration. Instead of plain chocolate, we used our caramel-filled milk chocolate Halloween treat Zombie Food to put a spooky twist on the traditional s’more. The added sweet caramel flavor is simply irresistible! We’re glad we made this delicious discovery now because come Halloween season, there’s no doubt this will be a frequently made treat! We can’t wait for you to try it!

Ingredients:

  • Graham crackers
  • Marshmallows
  • Zombie Food

InstagramPics 3639Instructions:

  1. Head on out to the campfire with all your s’mores supplies!
  2. Prep the s’more by grabbing two graham crackers and placing a Zombie Food body part on one of the crackers.
  3. Get on to roasting that marshmallow to your preferred level of charred crispiness.  [We like ours a little burnt! =) ]
  4. Remove the marshmallow from the fire and place on top of the cracker with Zombie Food on it.
  5. Place the other cracker on top and squeeze together to form the perfect s’more!
  6. Beware… it might get a little oozy! ;-)

You’re going to love this delicious peanuty indulgence!

Ingredients:

Mary Jane Turns 100!!

Orginal Mary Jane Plant Paul Revere House Fanuei Hall Boston 1888

In 1914, the legend of Mary Jane began. Inside a small shop that used to be the historic home of Paul Revere in Boston’s North End, the Charles N. Miller Company set forth to create a delicious chewy treat for everyone to enjoy. Taking the name of the creator’s favorite aunt, this treat was sweet from the start, combining the tasty flavor duo of molasses and peanut butter.

For decades, penny candy shops across the nation have encouraged fans to “use your change for Mary Janes!” So many of NECCO’s fans still share stories about their happy childhood memories taking a few dimes down to the corner shop to indulge on some fresh Mary Janes!

Soon after her creation, Mary Jane quickly became so beloved by fans that it was common to see her featured in many fun advertisements sent out across the nation.

Many variations of the classic Mary Jane wrapper appeared over the years as different types of Mary Jane offerings were created.

MJ-Bar-MillerCoFor a period of time, there was even a giant Mary Jane bar – what a deliciously imposing treat! =)

Also, much to the delight of the sweet tooth of all our fans, Mary Janes  were even covered in delicious milk chocolate for a limited period of time!

The popularity of this special peanut butter and molasses chew was widespread and passionate, and her sweet influence could be seen popping up in unique places across the country.

Over the years, the Miller Company tried several variations of the legendary Mary Jane mixture, but none could compare to the original. Also, none of the other treats dreamed up by the Miller Company could match the longstanding success of Mary Jane, which were a favorite for parties, snacks, offices, and anytime you needed something special and sweet!

n 1990, NECCO purchased the Stark Candy Company, which at the time owned both the Mary Jane and Mary Jane Peanut Butter Kisses lines, both of which have seen tremendous growth with their new home. Every Halloween, trick or treaters across the country look forward to receiving those tasty Peanut Butter Kisses chews packed in their classic orange and black wrappers.

Though Mary Jane first came to be in 1914, not too much has changed. The gold wrapper with a bold red stripe still packs that same irresistibly delicious original peanut butter and molasses formula today as it did 100 years ago – what a sweet century indeed!
