PRU BOO Recap!

pruboopic

Back in October, we had the honor to sponsor the Prudential Center of Boston’s 20th Annual PRU BOO event! It was a wonderful day filled with trick or treating, crafts, games, singing and more for the local children of the greater Boston community. All proceeds from the event (which amazingly amounted to over $4500!!) went to benefit the Catching Joy charity of Boston, a charity whose mission it is to promote volunteerism beginning with young children and their families. They organize hands-on activities that kids can do to let them feel the joy of giving.

Overall, it was an amazing day as always filled with laughter and endless smiles. Click here to see just some of the spooky fun from the day on the Prudential Center’s Facebook Album!

In addition to sponsoring the event and providing the candy for all the little trick or treaters, we also were lucky enough to also have a craft table where kids could come spend some time making fun crafts with NECCO candies! As in the past few years, we had a coloring and craft station where kids were able to make two of our Halloween crafts:  Mini Clark Bar Spiders and Slap Stix Ghosts! Check out a few of the creepy creations the children made at our fun craft table!

Mini Clark Bar Spiders!

ClarkSpider1

October is over, and Halloween has passed. Over the month, we had so much fun with festive movies, ghost stories, parties, outdoor activities, and of course, eating lots and lots of delicious candy on Halloween. Before we move onto the excitement of the upcoming holidays, we wanted to share one last craft we created this past month: mini Clark Bar spiders!

These little treats were a hit during the Halloween season, but they can also be used for parties throughout the year as a cute little creepy favor or a fun DIY craft project for your little ones!

Supplies Needed:

  • googly eyes
  • glue stick
  • black or red pipe cleaners
  • Clark Bar Jr.

ClarkJr-Tub

Instructions:

  • Take a full length pipe cleaner and wrap it around the Clark Jr. tying a single knot on the top of the candy bar.
  • Leave enough length of the pipe cleaner on both sides of the bar to create legs on each side.
  • Wrap three more pipe cleaners around in the same fashion.
  • Bend the pipe cleaners to make knees and feet as you see fit!
  • Glue on some googly eyes and for some spooky fun!

This Sunday, October 26th, NECCO will proudly be appearing at The Shops at the Prudential Center’s annual PRU BOO in Boston!

The PRU BOO is a fun family event where children can trick-or-treat in many of the Prudential Center’s stores, filling up their bags with a great mix of yummy NECCO candies! Trick-or-treat bags are available for a small donation of $4 and all proceeds from the day directly benefit the Catching Joy charity, an organization whose mission is to promote volunteerism beginning with young children and their families by organizing hands-on activities that kids can do to let them feel the joy of giving.

Find out the complete details about this great event on the Prudential Center’s website.

In addition to providing the sweets for trick-or-treating, NECCO is also excited to be participating again in an exciting craft event where we will be making these cute little Slap Stix Ghosts among other fun!

Clark Bar Sugar Cookies!

photo 6

It’s back to school time! Now that all the kids are off to their annual schedules of academics and extra-curricular activities, sometimes it’s fun to reward them with something special and sweet for all their hard work and energy. One of our fans told they spiced up traditional sugar cookies by adding some of our Clark Bites! So, of course, we had to try it for ourselves!

Though our cookies came out in some seriously crazy shapes (oops, baking fail!), the taste was simply unbeatable! Deliciously sweet sugar cookies with hints of creamy chocolate and peanut butter mixed throughout is a truly tasty dessert! It works both with chopped up Clark Bar or Clark Bites.  So, grab your ingredients and whip up these Clark Sugar Cookies to treat your little one (or yourself! After all, you deserve it too! )

Ingredients:

  • 2 & ½ cups of all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter
  • 2 large whole eggs
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp of sea salt
  • Clark Bars or Clark Bites (your preference!)

Baking Supplies:

  • parchment paper
  • 1 or 2 flat cookie sheets
  • mixer
  • measuring cup and measuring spoons
  • whisk

Instructions:

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350°F or slightly warmer to 375°F depending on the size and strength of your oven.
  2. In the medium mixing bowl, gently whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In the large mixing bowl, use the mixer to blend together the sugar and the butter. The speed best used is medium-high, and it should be beat until the mixture is completely blended and has a fluffier texture to it. You want to blend until there are no clumps.
  4. Add the two large eggs, one at a time, into the large mixing bowl, and again using the mixer beat until the eggs are completely blended.
  5. Once this is completely combined, blend in the vanilla extract until completely combined. Thoroughly mix to avoid clumps of ingredients.
  6. Once ready, gradually stir in the dry mixture from the medium mixing bowl in increments to the mix. On a low speed, use the mixer to blend until ingredients are just combined.
  7. Line the baking sheets with parchment paper and place the golf-ball sized portions of cookie dough on the sheets at least two inches apart.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes until the edges begin to become golden brown. It’s important to note that they won’t look like fully baked cookies at this time, just slightly golden and set.
  9. Remove cookies from the oven and let cool completely. (A wire cooling rack works great!)
  10. Enjoy your special treat! =)
