Halloween is a magical holiday for the little ones. It captivates their imagination and is filled with exciting activities and of course, candy. In celebration of this spooky season, we’ve created a quick fun craft that your kids will love using our most classic sweet: NECCO Wafers!
Grab a few supplies and get to making these cute little pumpkins and ghosts that your kids will love to hide in all corners of the house to scare and surprise everyone!
- Glue sticks
- Black permanent marker
- White construction or printer paper 8″x11″
- Orange construction paper 8″x11″
- Jr. NECCO Wafers (Make sure they’re Jr. sized, not full-sized. The smaller they are the more pumpkin & ghost-like they look!)
- Take one Jr. NECCO Wafer roll and size it length-wise on the orange construction paper. Leave at least ¾” additional paper for the top of the pumpkin.
- Cut the orange construction paper into a strip at the marked length in step 1. Cut as many strips as pumpkins that you’d like to make.
- Wrap the strip of orange construction paper around the Jr. NECCO Wafer roll and cut it so that it closes neatly with only a small overlap.
- Line up the paper so that one edge meets the edge of the roll. You will want the overhang on one end only so as to to twist and make your pumpkin top.
- Glue the orange strip to the Jr. NECCO Wafer roll using the glue stick. Glue the end of the strip to itself at the overlap to make sure it stays secure.
- Twist the overhang into a pumpkin top. (Freestyle!)
- Draw on your silly jack-0-lantern face!
- Cut the white paper into long thin strips about ½” thick. These will be your Mummy wrappings. Cut as many as you’d like. Each Mummy should only require one strip.
- Place glue on one end of the strip and secure to the bottom edge of the Jr. NECCO Wafer roll. Wrap the strip around the roll in an uneven fashion, aiming to look like a Mummy’s wraps.
- Glue the other end of the strip to the roll. It does not need to be glued throughout as the moving loose strip in the middle makes it more Mummy-like!
- Draw on your best eery Mummy face!
- Get to spookin’! =)

Dessert time is the best time – no debating it! Our favorite candies to create sweet indulgences with are our Clark Bar and Clark Bites. The real chocolate, real peanut butter crunch of these chocolate sweets is rivaled by none, which makes them the perfect ingredients in so many recipes.
Today, we bring your sweet tooth a treat from its wildest dreams: Clark Fudge Pudding. Yes, you read that right, Fudge Pudding – sugary sweet with just the right amount of peanut butter – chocolate crunch. So, grab these few ingredients, and you’ll be on your way to the sweetest, creamiest dessert! (or anytime snack… pudding’s acceptable at brunch, right?!)
Also, did we mention it’s NO BAKE! That’s right, no setting the oven to 350, no burning those finger tips… just cool, sweet, delicious Clark fudge pudding.
- 5 & ½ cups of powdered sugar
- 2 & ½ cups of dry milk
- 8 oz of cream cheese, softened
- 16 Tbsp of unsalted butter (2 sticks), softened
- 2 tsp of vanilla extract
- 4-6 oz of water (your judgment as to desired consistency)
- Clark Bars or Clark Bites (your choice as to which!)
- 1 large mixing bowl
- measuring cup
- 1 tsp
- large mixing spoon
- chopping knife
- baking pan (13″ x 9″ is generic size but it’s your preference!)
Chop Clark Bars/Clark Bites finely with some larger pieces scattered throughout.
Mix the powdered sugar, dry milk, water, vanilla extract and softened butter and cream cheese in the large mixing bowl.
Add in most of the chopped Clark Bars/Clark Bites to your batter, leaving some pieces aside for topping.
Spread the batter evenly within your baking pan and sprinkle the remaining chopped Clark Bars/Clark Bites across the top layer of the batter.
Chill in the refrigerator to allow for some setting.
Start scooping that sweet Clark Fudge Pudding!
Chances are your plate will end up looking like this. Just remember, there’s no shame in going back for a second scoop… or third… or fourth…

On Wednesday NECCO paid a special visit to the Mittineague Elementary School in Springfield, MA. The children in the school brought it to NECCO’s attention that their school-wide read, Turtle in Paradise by Jennifer L. Holm, mentioned NECCO Wafers several times throughout the novel. The children explained that while reading they also investigated to learn more about NECCO, and they were so happy to find out NECCO was located in their state!
After hearing of their excitement, NECCO connected to arrange for a school visit! All the students from first to fifth grade came down to the classroom to read a selection of Turtle in Paradise and have some fun with NECCO! The students learned some interesting historical facts about NECCO, such as “Did you know that NECCO was created in 1847?”, “Our founder, Oliver Chase, created the country’s first candy-making machine!”, or “NECCO Wafers were given to soldiers as part of their rations during the Civil War and World War II!”
In addition to the fun tour of NECCO’s history, students were able to learn about how NECCO Wafers were made, including what are the ingredients and how the machines work.
Then they were treated to a surprise: NECCO brought along NECCO Wafer dough! Each student received a handful of the dough, which is the mixed ingredients to NECCO Wafers, and was able to have a blast creating their own yummy masterpieces!
Some spelled out their name (or NECCO’s as shown above)…
While others decided to make fun shapes and figures…
The room was abuzz with chatter and laughter as the children created and re-created wonderfully imaginative designs. Following their craft, each student was treated to a handful of the finished product.
Overall, the school trip was an amazing one for NECCO, and it was an unforgettable experience to treat the students to a fun time of learning NECCO’s proud history and getting the chance to be a candy maker for the day!
Last week, NECCO attended the annual Sweets & Snacks Expo in Chicago. In attendance were hundreds of confectionery and snacking companies from across the country and the world. Companies set up booths and exhibited their product lines, helping to educate others in the industry.
In 2013, NECCO debuted a brand new booth that showcased all of their classic candies such as NECCO Wafers, Sweethearts, Sky Bar, Mary Jane, Haviland Thin Mints, Clark Bar, Candy Buttons and more! (Check out Necco.com for our full product line!) Each towering kiosk highlighted NECCO’s widespread product line and production capabilities.
Also featured within the booth was a display of NECCO’s proud, storied history. With artifacts such as an authentic early 20th century era Clark Bar or a sales ledger from 1901 as well as a plethora of important milestone photographs, the crowd was abuzz when they visited this kiosk. Guests walking by studied the shelves, took photos and pulled others over to take a glance. This kiosk, which so wonderfully showcased our passion and innovation over our 166 years of existence, was a fan (and company) favorite.
In addition to their display of their classic sweets, NECCO also unveiled three new products which will appear in the upcoming year, including Tropical NECCO Wafers, which has just hit the store shelves!
Attendees were able to sample some of NECCO’s candies as they learned about the extensive history, product line and production capabilities of this classic American candy maker. The Sweets and Snacks Expo was undoubtedly a great experience for all!

On Friday, NECCO attended Room to Grow‘s “Celebrating Inspirational Women and Mothers” benefit breakfast at The Taj Hotel in Boston.
Room to Grow’s tagline is “building a strong foundation for babies in poverty.” They are a non-profit organization committed to enriching the lives of babies born into poverty throughout their critical first three years of development. Support they provide benefits the children as well as their parents.
Throughout the morning, many women spoke about their experience as mothers and how thankful they are to have Room to Grow as part of their lives. Attendees were able to see the strong and overwhelmingly positive impact Room to Grow has made on the lives of not only those who benefit from the charity, but also on those who donate and volunteer.
The breakfast raised money that will support the organization’s many initiatives, from physical supplies like clothing, books and toys to extensive social work and support for children and their families. All in attendance were noticeably proud that they could help give Room to Grow the assistance it needs to complete these wonderful efforts.
Guests of this great event were treated to a SWEET surprise on their way out: Haviland Thin Mints! Room to Grow even dressed our sweets up in lovely wrapping to show their guests how much they appreciated their attendance and support.
