Sweets & Snacks 2014!

Last week, NECCO appeared at the annual Sweets & Snacks Expo in Chicago with a big, bright booth right in the middle of all action.

We proudly displayed our brands on the booth’s five towering kiosks, with all packaging variations of the candies spread throughout. (Check out NECCO.com to catch a glimpse of our full product line!)

As was the case last year, our kiosk that showcased special historical tokens from over the years created quite a buzz with guests. Some of our sweet artifacts on display included original early 20th century NECCO Wafer and Canada Mints packaging and a sales ledger from 1901 as well as a plethora of vintage photographs of our proud milestones. This kiosk, which so wonderfully showcased our passion and innovation over our 167 years of existence, was definitely a fan (and company) favorite.

Attendees who stopped by even had the opportunity to sample our Junior NECCO Wafers in all three varieties: Assorted, Chocolate and Tropical!

2014 also marks quite an important date in the life of our beloved Mary Jane, as it is the year she turns 100! To commemorate such an important milestone, we also had special goodie bags to educate attendees about the prominent past of Mary Jane and also her bright future of limitless possibilities for this special chew.

In addition to our main booth, we also participated in the New Product Showcase, where hundreds of companies have the opportunity to display their exciting new sweet treats. This year we stood out among the rest by showcasing the power of our popular Sweethearts brand and displayed three of its newest variations: Hot & Cool Hearts, Mummy Hearts and Color Your Own Pop Eggs!

Over 600 domestic and international confectionery and snack companies appeared, filling every corner of the massive McCormick Expo Center with beloved favorites and some seriously sweet innovations. It was a wonderful time to view the best products in the industry and see all of the companies’ hard work come to fruition. There was even an amazing chalk artist on hand at the event to showcase how candy had truly taken over Chicago!

Overall, with over 600 companies in attendance and tens of thousands of people from the industry in attendance, the Sweets and Snacks Expo was undoubtedly a great experience for NECCO! Until next year, Chicago! Our sweet tooth already can’t wait for Sweets & Snacks 2015!

coloryourownbanner

This Valentine’s Day, NECCO launched an exciting new product: Color Your Own Sweethearts! This fun new item contained the yummy original Sweethearts flavors of Lemon, Strawberry, Green Apple, Blue Raspberry, Grape, and Orange in a unique new box! The boxes featured cute black and white designs, perfect for little ones to color using their imagination!

Alongside this new launch was a Color Your Own Sweethearts Coloring Contest! Fans ages 5-12, broken down into 3 age categories, submitted photos of their most impressive coloring creations for the chance at some pretty sweet prizes! The Grand Prize winners will receive a $1,000 Savings Bond Certificate and the opportunity to have their own personal phrase appear on a Sweethearts candy for the 2015 Valentine’s Day season! All Runners Up will get a huge NECCO goodie bag filled with a scrumptious mix of NECCO treats!

We couldn’t have been more thrilled about this contest and waited daily in great anticipation for the designs to roll in! It was a fun challenge for our younger fans to turn this:

Into imaginative creations like this:

And our team was blown away by both the number of entries and the awesome creativity in each design we received! It was truly a difficult process to pull out the winners from each age group because of the quality of the submissions. In the end, though it was a very tough decision, we were finally able to settle on the winners. Here are the six amazing designs of the Grand Prize Winners and Runners Up!

Valentine’s Day Sweethearts Wreath!

Picture 223

Can you believe we’re already half way through January!? That means we have our eyes (and our sweet tooth) focused on one of our favorite days of the year: Valentine’s Day! It’s a special time of year when we are surrounded by sweet reminders of the love we have for one another.  Kids especially love jumping in on the fun of both decorating and sharing sweet gifts with their friends and family. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, here’s a very quick and fun craft for you and your kids to have fun with in order to decorate your house for this wonderful loving season! Enjoy!

Supplies Needed:

  • Regular white squeeze glue
  • Heavy duty card stock
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Two circular objects for tracing the inner and outer rings of the wreath (ex. the lid of a peanut butter jar)
  • Your ribbon of choice
  • Sweethearts

Sweethearts

Instructions:

  1. Trace around the two circular objects on the heavy duty card stock, one circle inside the other, creating the wreath ring shape.
  2. Cut out the wreath. If your card stock is not sturdy, you can opt to trace a second wreath ring and glue the two together.
  3. Line up the Sweethearts before you begin gluing them to ensure a more organized fit and distribution of colors.
  4. Using the squeeze white glue, glue the Sweethearts onto the wreath one by one. Press them firmly down onto the card stock and hold for several seconds to ensure they stick.
  5. Let dry completely or else the Sweethearts will either shift or begin to fall off when applying the ribbon.
  6. Cut the ribbon of your choice to your desired length. Wrap it around one section of the wreath for sturdiness in hanging. Tie a knot at the top and hang your beautiful Valentine’s Day creation! =)
